Delugs Ambassador: Constant @constant.kw

We are pleased to introduce Constant (@constant.kw) from Singapore as our Delugs Ambassador!

Read on to learn more his favourite watch brand and complication, his hobbies, why he decided to join the Delugs Ambassador Program, and more!

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

I am Constant, just turned 30 in 2023. I am the Content & Community Manager for Revolution who oversees content, video production and host events for brand principals; collector events; and other miscellaneous fun stuff that we do. I am part of the designing team for Revolution & Grail Watch limited editions as well as overseeing e-commerce side of the business.

Lastly, I am Wei Koh's private watch consultant in Revolution and also serve a few individuals all around the world who prefer to remain anonymous. I am a vintage watch enthusiast so naturally I collect vintage watches primarily. Specifically Rolex, a brand that I have the biggest passion for. I love narratives/stories - having the ability to share stories and history to collectors who are interested and learning new things brings me great joy.

When and how did you get into watches?

I started to get interested watches around 16-17 years old but was never serious about it or had the finances to afford any. A fateful trip to a watchmaker's workshop with my dad opened my eyes and got me curious as I saw a balance wheel beating for the very first time.

At 18 years old, I received my first real Swiss watch from my dad, a Tag Heuer Professional 2000 that he bought in the late 80's. It's a 34mm case, blue dial and a quartz movement, and wearing that makes me feel really special. I made my first purchase that year as well, a Seiko Monster Tuna ref. SRP 637, my first mechanical watch that I paid with my own money. Incidentally, i still have it today.

Fast forward to when I was 21- 22, I got my first Rolex. It was a Submariner Ref. 16610LN and I got it because I was earning decent money as a product trainer in LG while still being a part-timer and that was a prize for myself. After serving National Service (a mandatory duty that every Singaporean male citizen and PR must undertake upon attaining the age of 18), I started an events company in 2017 and after business thrived, my watch hobby became seriously dangerous.

I owned pretty much the full modern catalogue of Rolex and was buying AP left and right and all of them were lavish purchases. I was literally buying watches every single week or two. Early 2019 I took the first real step of going into vintage, and purged all of my modern watches and started to build a curated collection. It took all the things I have learnt over the years and applying them. Made many mistakes and those mistakes cost me a lot of money and heartache but I am blessed as I am surrounded with good people and slowly I manage to create a little humble collection for myself which I am pretty proud of.

I decided to make watches my career because I enjoy it so much. I worked as an AD for a friend's family business for almost two years and transitioned into something I loved the most - selling vintage watches and becoming a vintage Rolex specialist. I study really hard; learnt a lot regarding authentication, servicing; and was educated with the auction market as well.

Since joining Wei in 2023, he has help me to reach even further into my passion and I got to befriend lots of important friends whom I used to only dream about; from people like Auro Montanari to Eric Tortella; and now, a Delugs Ambassador in 2024, I am extremely grateful.

Apart from watches and photography, what are some of your other passions or hobbies?

I love Tarantulas, pretty much are the only things I am passionate about.

What is your favourite watch brand and why?

Rolex. It is the most obvious answer yet I can safely say that I love it more than what the brand represents today. I love the process of evolution and how visionary Rolex was, back in the 1920s and what's more interesting are the stories that follow with are really inspiring and intriguing.

What is the one watch in your collection you never thought you would own, and why?

I would say the collection of multiple Rolex Bubblebacks that I have owned. I have always gone for nothing smaller than 34-35 mm because I assume that anything smaller, it would be impossible to wear as it looks funny being that small. Of course, that changed after I placed a Bubbleback on my wrist for the very first time and the rest is history.

Are there any specific watch complications or features that fascinate you the most?

I love the chronograph, I know I know... but remember during the 1910s, having a chronograph on the wrist was a revolution. Incidentally in modern era, is the most practical complication on a mechanical wrist watch. At least, that is my opinion and it still fascinates me looking at a vintage chronograph movement.

Do you have any daily rituals related to watches?

I actually don't. I wind up what I want to wear that day and clean it with a cleaning cloth before I put it back in storage at the end of the day.

Why did you decide to join the Delugs Ambassador program?

Well, it was the very first strap brand I purchase that I am actually quite fond of (Thanks Ashley - Community Manager for Delugs) and was very surprised that Delugs is actually a local brand. Being a watch guy, straps really helps to give you a new watch everyday without spending way more to buy a new watch.

Delugs fast growth is credited to Ken's persistent attitude to improve production quality and explore creative methods to create new integration for something as mundane as watch accessories is actually inspiring to me. To be honest, the products and successful business model speaks for itself but for me, I decided to represent Delugs just because I like Ken very much. Simple as that.
